This is the site to be at for all things Seinfeld. Descriptions of the
series, lists of the best episodes and seasons, descriptions of some of the best
episode, and more! Finally answers to those all
important questions: What is the funniest Seinfeld episode
ever and which season of Seinfeld was the best. I have watched all the
episodes of Seinfeld and given each one a rating between 1 and 10. For the
best season, I compared the average ratings for the seasons. Seinfeld was
one of the funniest shows ever, even though it did get worse after Larry David
left. Every episode of every season is funny and worth watching (ok maybe
not the series finale). For more detailed descriptions of every episode of Seinfeld,
visit the Seinfeld episode
guide at TV Tome.
What is Seinfeld?
Seinfeld is one of the funniest shows ever made. It is a show about
nothing. There are four main characters: Jerry, Elaine, George, and
Kramer. The shows usually involve bizarre situations and stories and just
lots of odd observational humor. The show was created by Jerry Seinfeld
and Larry David, both comedic geniuses. The series was the funniest in the
early seasons before Larry David left the show after season 7. In the
final two seasons, the show gets completely ridiculous with over-the-top acting
and becomes much less believable and not as funny. In the early seasons of
the show, the characters are nice people who like to poke fun at others but by
the end of the series they are very mean-spirited, making fun of nearly everyone
they see.
Who are the characters?
Jerry is a stand-up comedian who lives in New York and is always hanging out
with George, Kramer and Elaine either at his apartment or at Monk's Cafe.
Kramer is Jerry's next door neighbor and is crazy and flouts the conventions of
society. Kramer is always coming up with bizarre ideas and
inventions. George is Jerry's buddy from high school and is very insecure
in jobs and especially in his relationships with women. Elaine is Jerry's
former girlfriend who now is just a funny friend. There are also some
minor characters that appear in the series. Newman is another
neighbor of Kramer and Jerry's who is a postman and is Jerry's
arch-nemesis. Kenny Banya is another stand up comedian and is a hack who
follows Jerry a lot. Mickey is Kramer's small friend who is another person
hoping to become an actor. David Putty is Elaine's on again off again
boyfriend in the later seasons and also a car mechanic. Susan is an
executive at NBC and also George's girlfriend and eventually fiance in many
seasons. Other characters are Jerry's parents in Florida, George's crazy
parents, George's boss Mr. Wilhelm, Elaine's bosses, Mr. Pitt, Mr. Lippman, and
J. Peterman, and Kramer's lawyer Jackie Chiles.

Short Descriptions of the best episodes:
1. The Opposite (Season 5, Episode
22) Rating: 10
In The Opposite, George decides everything he has done is wrong so he is
going to do the opposite of his natural instincts. He picks up a girl by telling
her he's unemployed and lives with his parents and then says they don't know
each other well enough to sleep together. Meanwhile, Jerry is constantly
breaking even, and Elaine gets fired from her job. George doing the
opposite of everything is definitely the funniest thing ever.
2. The Chinese Restaurant
(Season 2, Episode 11) Rating: 9.9
This is one of the few episodes where you don't see Jerry's apartment.
The entire episode is Jerry, George and Elaine waiting for a table at a Chinese
restaurant. They bet each other to steal food from someone's table and
attempt a bribe, but the funniest moments are when George tells the story about
his girlfriend and when George receives a phone call.
3. The Keys (Season 3, Episode 23)
Rating: 9.8
This is the episode where Jerry and Kramer get into a feud about the room
keys and Kramer ends up going to California. Things happen and everyone
ends up switching keys back and forth. One of the funniest parts of this
episode is when Kramer and George are talking and George realizes the only
reason he has to get up in the morning is that he likes to read the
paper.
4. The Junior Mint (Season 4,
Episode 20) Rating: 9.8
In the Junior Mint, Kramer and Jerry go to watch a man's operation, and a
junior mint accidentally ends up in the patient. At the same time, Jerry
is struggling to figure out what his girlfriend's name is, only knowing that it
rhymes with a part of the female anatomy.
5. The Contest (Season 4,
Episode 11) Rating: 9.7
This is the famous episode where the 4 main characters make a bet to see who
can go the longest without masturbating. Meanwhile, Jerry is dating a
virgin and there's a naked woman across the street while Elaine has met JFK
Jr. You can imagine what goes on.
6. The Hamptons (Season 5,
Episode 22) Rating: 9.6
Everyone goes to their friends place in the Hamptons. George's
girlfriend is topless and Jerry's girlfriend sees George naked. Elaine
doesn't know if she's cuter than an ugly baby. And Kramer finds some
lobsters to eat in the ocean. This is also the episode that brings up the
term "shrinkage".
7. The Cafe (Season 3, Episode 7)
Rating: 9.5
This is an episode where Jerry is giving a man advice about his restaurant
and convinces him to change it to a Pakistani restaurant. Meanwhile,
George is taking an IQ test for his girlfriend, and cheats by passing it out to
Elaine to take for him. This episode is worth it just to see George
attempt to explain to his girlfriend about the test.
8. The Switch (Season 6, Episode 10)
Rating: 9.3
In this episode Jerry tries to switch girlfriends. His girlfriend doesn't
laugh, while her roommate does and he wants to try to go out with the roommate
instead, executing "The Roommate Switch." At the same time
George thinks his girlfriend might be bulimic and enlists Kramer's mother to
find out. This would be the episode where we find out Kramer's first name.
9. The Boyfriend (Season 3, Episode
15-16)
Rating: 9.3
Keith Hernandez shows up in this episode as "the boyfriend."
Jerry likes him as a new friend because he was a player on the Mets in the 1986
World Series. Elaine likes him as a boyfriend. And they both get extremely
jealous. At the same time, Kramer and Newman are convinced that Hernandez
spit on them after a game and give their ridiculous explanation. This is a
two part episode (the rating above is for the first part, the second part I gave
an 8.4 rating).
10. The Trip (Season
4, Episode 1-2) Rating: 9.2
This episode actually follows up on the end of the last episode from season
3, The Keys (which is actually rated as the third best above). In this
hour long episode, George and Jerry venture west to California to try to track
down Kramer and for Jerry to go on the Tonight Show. The second half is
where it gets really ridiculous as Kramer is accused of being a serial killer
and George and Jerry ride in a police car to try to tell everyone that Kramer's
not a murderer. Even after they all meet up at the end its ridiculous as
Kramer explains what he does, the way he does it, and what he's going to
do. This episode is a two parter (the rating above is for the 2nd part,
the first part I gave a 8.2 rating).
