Privacy

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2003

So with Palladium, Carnivore, Tempest, Echelon, Patriot Act, and Patriot Act II, what privacy do we have left? Well, almost none. The technology is already available to see everything on our computer screens, everything we send over the internet, and eavesdrop on everything we say over the phone. And with the Patriot Acts, there will be no regulations to prevent the government from using these technologies to eavesdrop on us. So phone conversations are not private. E-mails are not private. Instant message conversations are not private. If Patriot II passes then the government could search your home or office without a warrant so even paper documents you have in your home are not private. So I don’t know that there is anything that is private. I guess an in person conversation could be private, provided there are no eavesdropping devices around. But if someone really wanted to listen in, I’m sure they could. So remember, Big Brother is watching you!
