Taking Over the World

Pinky:  What are we gonna do tonight, Brain?
Brain:  Same thing we do every night, Pinky.  TRY TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!
This is a quote from the show, Pinky and the Brain.  Everyone has thought about the great power that would come with ruling the world.  It is a common part of many stories and shows.  Perhaps some time in the distant future, when mankind has gotten over all its racial differences and other problems, there will be an elected government of the world.  But of course then there will be other planets colonized, so you still won’t rule everybody.  But the way things are set up now, it is much worse than that.  Decisions are made in the major countries like the United States that affect the entire globe.  About a dozen countries make up a huge section of the population and land in the world.  And although the leaders of these countries were only elected by a fraction of the people, they are effectively making decisions important to the everyone on Earth.  Similar to when colonists in America were complaining about “Taxation without Representation”, now most of the world can complain that decisions affecting them are being made by people they have no control over or can affect.  This is not an easy problem.  I am not sure what the solution could be.  We, the human race, still fight over such petty differences that it would be impossible to setup a global government currently.  However, there is a kind of forced global government in place.
This would not be that bad if the leaders would listen to what some of the smaller countries wanted.  If the leaders could act like they were representing everyone and take into consideration their desires, then perhaps it wouldn’t be so bad.  But instead, the main leader making decisions affecting the entire globe is none other than GEORGE W. BUSH!  And Bush doesn’t care what other people think.  He doesn’t even care what other similarly powerful countries think; he ignores the wishes of the European Union, Russia, and China.  While the rest of the globe is worrying about the global warming that is probably going on, Bush only cares about the money.  While the rest of the globe is trying to preserve land and endangered species, Bush only cares about money.  Instead of agreeing to the Kyoto Protocol and cutting dangerous carbon dioxide emissions, Bush says it would hurt the economy too much.  Bush would prefer to force the world to live with our fuel emissions and the rising sea levels that we are creating.  In essence, Bush, who barely got elected in this country is making decisions for the entire world, and he’s making decisions that are not concerned about the future health of the planet and the people that live on it, but concerned with how much money the Texas oil companies can make this year or this month.
