Patriots Training Camp

I went with my dad to Patriots’ Training Camp yesterday for the afternoon practice.  It was pretty good.  The QB’s and WR’s did some throwing drills then the TE/RB’s had some one on one drills against the linebackers alternately practicing blocking and man coverage.  The WR’s practiced routes against the DB’s and finally the team did a full scrimmage.  It was also good to see Brady, Cassel, and Maroney putting in some extra time after practice.
There were a couple of really nice plays.  One of the best was a catch Troy Brown made: Brady had thrown it pretty long, and Brown managed to sprint and dive behind CB Eugene Wilson to make the catch.  Some other good plays were a diving catch by Reche Caldwell and an interception by Asante Samuel.  Also Vrabel had a good knockdown against Ben Watson during the TE vs LB man coverage drill.

The players that looked the best to me were TE’s Ben Watson and David Thomas.  Thomas made some good catches and it seemed like Brady was throwing to Ben Watson the whole day (although with Branch, Graham, and Jackson not there he doesn’t have many WRs to throw to).  Caldwell looked pretty good too.

I have a bunch of photos from training camp on my website.  I put my camera in burst mode and got a nice series of a play during scrimmage where no one was open and Brady pulled the ball down and ran for it.  I also have some good pictures of the players who were signing autographs near us, although it was mostly rookies and kickers.

I did ask rookie kicker Stephen Gostowski what his longest kick was.  He said he has made 65 yarders in practice but you would never do that in a game unless there was a strong wind, etc.  I said “Or in Denver”  which he didn’t seem to have thought of.
